Baseball Salaries still not correlated with performance There are lies, there are damned lies, there are statistics, and then there are baseball statistics. A number of hits from TheBigLead sports blog to an earlier discussion of baseball salaries vs. team performance has prompted me to check that conclusion again with more data. The conclusion was that there is little correlation between salary and winning games. Later, Paul suggested we read Moneyball, I read The Baseba.ll Economist instead. The Big Lead helpfully pointed to the USA Today baseball.Seattle Mariners VS Baltimore Orioles MLB Tickets.

Mariners OK With Griffey's Salary Tickets, According to Hal McCoy of the Dayton Daily News, Ken Griffey Jr.'s remaining $8MM this year and his $16MM option/$4MM buyout next year will not deter the Mariners. The revelation that Junior may not require his '09 option exercised and the chunk of deferred money could indeed make the money a non-issue. One question is whether the Reds will treat this as a salary dump or if they'll want a decent prospect in return. The other is whether Griffey would want to join the last place Mariners.

It's only Wednesday? Seattle Mariners VS Baltimore Orioles Tickets, Well, J came back from the island last night. His grandma is going to be just fine. Apparently, she has all of her motor skills, and seems to be in good condition. It's great news, and I'm really happy. It's always scary when an older person goes through something as major as a stroke. J is leaving next weekend to go mountain climbing in Alaska for 3 weeks. When he's gone, we'll miss our 6-month anniversary (I can't believe it's already been 6 months!), and his birthday. I've already decided.

Out of it by mid-May Cheap Seattle Mariners VS Baltimore Orioles Tickets, Well, this is definitely an end to the Bill Bavasi era.  And it can't but be admitted that his tenure is ultimately disappointing, considering his father Buzzy's legacy as churning out champions, and Bill's handiwork in building the 2002 World Series champion Angels.  (You have to wonder why Los Angeles hasn't made it back to the Fall Classic despite throwing money at Vladimir Guerrero, Bartolo Colon, and Gary Matthews Jr.  Maybe throwing a ton of money at Torii Hunter will be the ticket!) .

MLB Opening Day 2008 Safeco Field. Home of the Seattle Mariners! Guess how many glass bats are there in this beautiful artwork that is suspended inside the main entrance to Safeco Field! And even though it snowed on opening day, and the roof was closed, we beat the Texas Rangers! Safeco Field (Baseball).

Seattle Road Trip We went to Seattle last weekend to meet Scott and Charice (mommy's friend from school). It was a lot of fun. We went to the aquarium, watched a Mariners game, walked by a Nike kids race and saw Matt Hasselbeck (daddy's highlight of the trip), and visited the Bogner family (mommy and daddy's friends from grade/high school). I did really good on the long drive and slept most of the way. I hated staying in the hotel though. We got back from the Mariners game at 11, but I couldn't fall asleep until. Seattle.

Just another manic 25-run Monday WA.
